Using the Virtual Teaching Assistance Center (VTAC)

The Virtual Teaching Assistance Center (VTAC) is an online knowledge base located at  This should be the first place you go for help – it will most likely have the information you need.  If you can’t find what you are looking for, feel free to suggest an article using the link at the top of the page. 

The Home Page

As you start out on the home page, notice you can scroll down to view the new and most popular articles on the site.

The Left Menu

The table of contents is broken down into several categories.  As you click on an category, it expands to show the articles pertaining to that topic.

The Search Box

Shows the Search box.

If you are looking for help on a specific topic, enter keywords into the search box near the top right.  As you type, article titles containing your keywords will pop up below. When you hit enter, a more exhaustive list of articles appears.

One-On-One Support

If you would like one-on-one support for your online course, click on VTAC Support near the top of the table of contents and log in to your account.

Under the Assistance heading, click on VTAC Chat. 

During regular VTAC hours, you will see choices for LSC-Online - VTAC and OTS - Service Desk.  If you need technical support with your course, you can get help through the Office of Technology Services (OTS) by choosing OTS -Service Desk from the Chat drop-down menu. You can also contact OTS at 866-614-5014.

If you need quick (approximately 15 minutes) instructions support, you can chose LSC-Online - VTAC to connect with an LSC-Online support staff member for immediate assistance. VTAC Chat is available during normal business hours. (You must be logged in to have access to the VTAC Support page.)

Outside of regular VTAC hours,  you will see an option for D2L Support in the place of LSC-Online - VTAC. D2L Support is provided by D2L and is available 24/7 to assist with questions that are directly related to D2L. If you choose D2L Support, you will be taken to a screen with several options.

  • D2L Ticket Support will allow you to submit a support ticket directly to D2L.
  • D2L Knowledge Base and Chat will take you to D2L's help documentation. You can search their knowledgebase, and if you don't find answers to your questions, you can start a chat with the D2L support team.
  • If you would like to speak to a support team member directly, you can call the help desk at 1-877-325-7778.

Please note that the D2L Support team can only provide assistance with issues that are directly related to D2L. For any questions outside regular VTAC hours regarding third-party integrations such as Turnitin, Relay, or textbook publishers, you can still consult our VTAC knowledgebase or contact the OTS Service Desk. 

Schedule a Phone or WebEx Appointment

If you have a more involved support issue that will take more time to resolve, you can also schedule a phone or WebEx appointment with a staff member.  Just click on the VTAC Appointment link and fill out the form.
