Course Shell Verification
Verify your course shell is present in your Brightspace course list. If it is not, check in iStar. Contact your chair or Department Manager if it is missing in iStar. Contact LSC-Online through VTAC Chat if it is only missing in Brightspace. Verify Course Shells
Activate your Brightspace section early. Activation allows your students to access your course once the start date arrives; puts the course link in the My Courses list of the students enrolled in the course; and allows them to verify that their course registration is accurate prior to the first day of class. Confirm Roster
Merge course rosters. If you would like to combine multiple course sections, please enter the course that you wish to designate as the primary section and go to Support > Course Design > Merge Rosters. Merge Rosters
Verify your Brightspace roster daily the first week. Within a course in Brightspace, go to Support > User Access > Verify Brightspace Roster. Click on the [Enroll into D2L] or [Un-enroll from D2L] button to correct the roster. Repeat regularly until registration is complete.
NOTE: Without this tool, it can take up to 36 hours for iStar updates to be reflected in Brightspace.
Verify Brightspace Roster
Add other instructors, TAs, etc... In Brightspace, go to Support > User Access > Add a User to Your Section. Submit the request form with information for all of the other instructors, TAs, etc… you wish to have access to your course. Add Users
Training
Become familiar with VTAC Services. Available under Support in Brightspace.  VTAC Services
Complete the Online Teaching Certification - Quick On-Boarding and the Full Online Teaching Certification Course. You can enroll in any Online Teaching Certification through Support > Training in Brightspace. Online Teaching Certification
Build Course Content
Build, import or update course content. Copy, import, or update course components from sandbox or previous course as needed. Copy Course Components
Update all course dates (due dates, date restrictions, etc.). Add any other desired restrictions, conditional release, or calendar dates. The Manage Dates tool is available from the ‘Edit Course’ link on the navbar.
Add or check Grades items & associations.
Add or check Dropbox assignments.
Add or check Quizzes (preview and complete as a student).
Add or check Discussions.
Make sure publisher materials import correctly.
Add new welcome announcement / video / audio in a news item on the course home page. Send welcome email to students.
Update syllabus and schedule with current semester information.
