Making a PDF

All MS Office products can produce PDF documents. Below are instructions for Word 2010 and Word 2013. There are advantages to using PDF in your course:

  • The document looks the same for every student no matter what operating system or browser
  • The PDF format is ubiquitous. It works on any operating system. 
  • Usually saving as PDF compresses the file size.

Creating a PDF Document from a Word 2010 Document

  1. Identifies the Save As option.Open your Word document.
  2. Click on the File tab.
  3. Choose Save As.
  4. In the Save as Type dropdown menu, choose PDF.

Creating a PDF Document from a Word 2013 Document

  1. Identifies the Export option.Open your Word document.
  2. Click on the File tab.
  3. Choose Export.
  4. Click on the Create PDF/XPS button.

  5. Choose a location to save your file, and give it the name you want it to have. Then click Publish.
